JYSS NPCC YouTube Channel Updates
Hi all!
2020 was quite a silent year with zero content being posted on this channel largely due to the current pandemic that we are in. Campcraft, Games Day, Swearing-In among other events being cancelled. These were also supposed to be my last few videos before I retire to focus on my academia.
When I started this channel, it was just to showcase some of the events that we have participated or hosted for keepsake. Over time, it also served to help me hone my skills in videography and editing, and although I still consider my skillsets in the basic level, the videos that I have posted over the years has shown much considerable differences in terms of the production level. From using a 720p point-and-shoot camera edited on Windows Movie Maker to using my own mobile phone being more capable with 4K resolution and editing on Premiere Pro and then DaVinci Resolve.
Through that, it allowed me to put emerging technologies through the paces, more accessible 4K recording, post-production effects and filmography styles. With my most recent video being the most extreme, shot and directly uploaded from a Galaxy S20+ in 4K HDR10+, even though it was unedited mostly due to my inability to edit videos in HDR as I would have to do color grading and that I did not have any experience in color appreciation.
That last video was actually an impromptu video, which covered Squad Tango's POP, as I intended to drop by to witness the event without taking any videos. Quite noticeable by how shaky the footage is than if I had shot with my gimbal.
To this day, I believe the best video that I have ever done was the NDP 2019 Observance Ceremony, a video which I placed more focus on the filmography side than trying hard to make visual effects in post-production. That little air display I added at the end was a last-minute thing, since I happened to be at The Float @ Marina Bay that evening.
Moving forward, I will no longer be uploading new content or moderating the channel, although I am open to any juniors seeking to create videos for YouTube. The focus for now is on building our new Instagram profile: @junyuan.npcc
My reasons for retiring is largely to focus on my academia, with my final year project in play, along with other personal commitments. The channel will still be up, with all the videos intact, just that it will not be moderated. As for the unedited raw footage, most, if not all, are still being kept by me. I do have plans in the future to even backup all of them offsite, as I had experienced a hard drive damage and lost the raw files for the 2018 Soiree, although the finished videos are still saved in multiple different locations.
6 years of existence with me being the sole person handling the channel was quite long, and with the trends moving to short clips on Instagram and TikTok, I felt that this side project of mine now has quite less of an impact compared to when I started it. It was fun while it lasted, but now it is time for me to let go.
